Questions
What families ask first
How old does a student have to be?
Students join from age 10. Juniors is for ages 10 to 13, teens are 14 to 17, and adult classes are for everyone older.
Can I watch a class?
Yes. Parents and family can watch any class from the bench along the wall. For belt tests and sparring rounds, please stay seated and quiet and keep the flash off.
What do we wear to the first class?
A plain t-shirt and loose pants. We have uniforms to borrow for that visit. No jewelry, hair tied back and shoes off at the mat.
What is a class like?
Students bow in, warm up, then work on poomsae, kicks and partner drills on pads. Class ends with a bow out.
Do I have to spar?
No. Poomsae and kicking classes never need gear. Sparring is its own class, and a student starts it when the coach agrees.
How does sparring start?
In full gear, with a coach in the ring and light contact first.
Do students have to compete?
No. Tournaments are optional. A student who wants to go joins the competition team, and the coaches help with divisions and entries.
Can adults and teens train together?
Adults and teens share the poomsae class and the sparring lab. Juniors, the teen classes and the adult classes are otherwise separate. Parents are welcome to join an adult class.
How do belts work?
A student tests for the next belt when the coach sees the skills.
How does tuition work, and how do I stop?
Tuition depends on the age group, the classes a week and the competition team, and the front desk goes over it at the first class. Enrollment runs month to month, and we ask for written notice 30 days ahead.
Still have a question?
Call the front desk or send a message, and we will get back to you.
